Valerie’s books include, “Happiness as a Second Language: A Guidebook to Achieving Lasting, Permanent Happiness,” “Success as a Second Language: A Guidebook for Defining and Achieving Personal Success,” and “How Women Can Succeed in the Workplace (Despite Having “Female Brains”).” She writes for a number of media outlets and her articles have garnered more than 3 million views.

As a speaker, Valerie travels the country with talks, “How Women Can Succeed in the Workplace,” teaching women how to develop instincts needed to advance in the corporate world, and “Speak Happiness!” workshops and keynotes, helping companies, entrepreneurs, artists and others stay positive, move forward, increase productivity and maximize profits by making happiness a priority.

As a screenwriter, Valerie has worked with Joel Schumacher, Catherine Zeta Jones, Barry Sonnenfeld, Ice Cube and others. She co-wrote, produced and directed the award-winning short, “Making the Cut,” as well as numerous commercials, shorts and public service announcements for causes she believes in.

Valerie spent her pre-Hollywood career in the Silicon Valley where she worked on some of the most important transactions of the Internet era as a securities lawyer, an investment banker and an Internet executive.

During this episode, Valerie speaks about the value of Happiness in the workplace, the cost of not acknowledging and appreciating your employees, and how to be a better manager and leader of people creating greater outcomes by working in collaboration.  She provides specific recommendations for ‘accidental managers’ – those who find themselves in a management position without the experience or training, and how to deal with toxic people.  Valerie also shares she own journey, including the risks and challenges that lead her to where she is today.
