What is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda?
The SDG was created to meet the needs of the new world with respect to issues such as climate, gender, poverty, and healthcare.
Sustainable development means being able to meet our needs of the present without having to compromise on the resources and needs of the future.
The SDG Agenda 2030 is their playbook comprised of 17 goals, 169 targets, and over 232 indicators, which could vary for different nations. All 193 nations have come together and signed up to meet those targets and goals.
Why Smita Created this Framework
You can’t just solve one problem in isolation, you have to solve them all at once. For Smita, she did not choose this framework but the framework chose her to get started on solving important world issues.
Business is a force and you can use it to create change because businesses have the power of collective people. And through building a SaaS framework, Fandoro makes it possible to help businesses and enterprises adopt Sustainable Development Goals.
The whole idea is to work towards small and medium businesses (SMBs) and to involve growth-stage startups.
A lot of people relate sustainability to corporate social responsibility (CSR). They are not 100% the same, but there is an overlap. So a lot of people work through their CSR funds on sustainability because there is a regulatable regulatory requirement for them to have a certain percentage of their profits to go to the CSR.
Besides just working for regulatory reasons, large enterprises are recognizing the importance of being a sustainable brand. They understand that sustainability could give them purpose and tolerability so they are adopting it more.
What Role Do States Play?
States technically have a role to play here to make these more mandatory. They have to be able to put down some pressure.
In fact, this year itself, we’ve lost so much ice now which cannot be built back even if we’re able to normalize the temperature. But what you need to worry about is that this pandemic was only the start when you are changing the whole ecology and geography of it.
Today, businesses are already struggling to stand apart. They want their brands to look different. But to create a differentiator, a product’s life cycle is very small now. Hence, the differentiation must come from the organization itself. It has to be purpose-driven so they can touch people’s lives. You don’t have to have 100% of the planet as your consumers. You just have to have that 10% who care and that gives you more benefit.
